Who’s responsible for preparing retaining and making available the necessary records on a job with a general contractor and subcontractor(s)? The certified renovator, whether assigned by a general contractor or subcontractor, is responsible for preparing the records demonstrating the work was done according to the work practice standards, including the training of non-certified workers.
All of the renovation firms share responsibility for retaining all required records for 3 years after the renovation is complete.
The records may be held by just one of the firms. Firms choosing not to hold copies of the records must be able to access them and make them available in a timely manner.
